Windsurfing: Cockerham sands Wind Direction: W - NW Wind Stength: 20 - 35 knots Surf / Sea State: messy chop Air Temperature: 12C Sea Temperature: cold Weather: Rain/ Sunshine at end Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Arrived there to find Phil and 3 others out who were all on sails ranging
from 4 - 5m. One guy had just rerigged to a 5.5 so I ood and arrd and
decided on the 4.7.
Got out there and it was very gusty from the start, my first run was well
underpowered so I was strugglin to stay upwind so I came back in and
released some outhaul. Went out on my next run and was completely maxed out
and as a huge gust front came through. My boom was to low so it was a
constant struggle battling to stay upright on the board as I was
practically holdin down the sail.
Had a few more runs and I was completely overpowered so came in to change
down to my smallest sail as did everyone else.
My run of bad luck with things blowing away continued when my rig got
ripped out of my hands whilst I was applying the outhaul due to a masive
gust that musta been somewehre near 40mph!! The rig went straight up into
the air and over the barbwire fence into the field behind me. Was lucky to
not to catch the fence as that woulda wrote the sail of.
Got back onto the water and everyone began struggling again and Phil
decided to call it a day as he couldnt get going on his 3.7.
I was managing fine for about half an hour whilst the sun came out and then
things started to go ballistic again and I was well overpowered for the
final 15mins.
Was a good day apart from the constant gusts which were very tiring and I
never felt completely relaxed. No strength left in my arms now so a good
workout.
